A NOTE FROM SCHOOL NURSE
The flu, or influenza, is a respiratory illness that can cause fever, runny nose, body aches, and cough. It is caused by the influenza viruses. The most common strains of seasonal flu are type A and B influenza. The best way to protect against the flu is through annual vaccination. The influenza vaccine is not mandatory but is highly recommended to those who are at high risk for complications related to the infection, such as young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. You can obtain the influenza vaccine from any clinic of your choice.
